From Pastor Tom Long
Rev.
Tom Long has served as our pastor since June of 2001. Prior to coming to English
Settlement, he pastored six United Methodist Churches in Wisconsin and one in
North Carolina. Pastor Tom has special interests in worship, preaching, evangelism, and church growth. He also has a “long” time commitment to teaching, having previously taught religion and theology courses part time at Lakeland and Carroll Colleges and Marquette University. “I like working with people of all ages,” explains Pastor Tom. “The students keep me on my toes, the English Settlement (church) members foster a strong religious community of faith, and our volunteer efforts in the local area strengthen our connections to a diverse population.” Pastor Tom’s religious philosophy is one of openness. “At English Settlement, our church doors and religious family are open to anyone who believes.” In addition to serving as the English Settlement pastor, he also teaches part-time at Carthage College and Marquette University. Pastor Tom holds degrees in history, theology, and the practice of Christian ministry from Albion College, Garrett-Evangelical Seminary, Duke University Divinity School, and Marquette University. In his free time, Pastor Tom may be found jogging indoors, reading civil war histories, and following college sports. The pastor and his wife, Carol, live in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin. They have three children: Emily, (a junior at UW-Madison), Allison, (a freshman at UW-Milwaukee), and Claire (a sophomore at Wauwatosa East High School). Pastor Tom welcomes open communication and dialogue from all people; families, friends, students and community members are all encouraged to chat with the pastor on a subject of their choice. Pastor Tom also respects confidentiality of sensitive topics. If you would like to contact Rev. Long directly, his home telephone number is 414-454-0629. You may also email him at religiot7@cs.com. |
