In conjunction with Peace with Justice Sunday, River Falls UMC dedicated the world's newest Peace Pole, a six-foot tall, six-sided granite pole, placed just South of the church's steeple. The words "May Peace Prevail On Earth" is inscribed in twelve languages/formats, two on each side of the our Peace Pole: Latin, Music (Let there be peace on Earth, and let it begin with me), English, German, French, Sign Language (Peace on Earth), Spanish, Chinese, Hebrew, Arabic, Korean, and Lakota Sioux. The Peace Pole was dedicated to the memory of Rev. Richard Truitt. He served the River Falls United Methodist Church from 1961-1970 and died January 5th, 2011. Rev. Truitt served on the UMC General Board of Church & Society, was chairperson of that Board's Division on World Peace, and was a key reason the church holds a yearly Peace with Justice Sunday. This Peace Pole will be a significant reminder of Rev. Truitt's gifts while he served there, and will be a lasting testament to promoting peace and social justice around the world. This memorial was made possible through a special asking of the congregation by the Memorial Committee. Click here for photo.
