Natural Church Development

The Board of Congregation and Circuit Development has in place two processes to assist local congregations' revisioning into stronger and healthier ministries. One is based on the Percept Group, Inc. organization and utilizes demographics in a comprehensive strategic planning approach. A second process focuses upon community leader face-to-face interviews, listening sessions with the congregation, and a valuing exercise that assists the local congregation to name for itself a short, mid, and long-range ministry direction.

A third process that is now in place is one that links to the Natural Church Development materials by Christian Schwarz. It bases its understanding upon eight characteristics of healthy congregations: 1) Empowering leadership; 2) Gift-oriented ministry; 3) Passionate spirituality; 4) Functional structures; 5) Inspiring worship; 6) Holistic small groups; 7) Need-oriented evangelism; 8) Loving relationships.

Coaches, (both lay and clergy), from across the conference are now ready to offer their services.
