How to :
Set up a Photo Gallery
Some tips from the Conference Communications and Technical Services Office

Return to Conference home page

You should set up a folder with a sub-folder for images.

The folder will contain an .HTML file for every photo. See the files Photo Gallery: First Photo and Photo Gallery: Second Photo to get an idea of what the pages look like. These pages can be formatted any way you wish.

The file structure will look like:

  • Photo Gallery
    • FirstPhoto.html
    • SecondPhoto.html
    • images
      • FirstPhoto.jpg
      • SecondPhoto.jpg

Try to keep your photos as close to the size you are using on the page as possible. For example: if your photo is 1500 x 2500, and you are going to view it by size 250 x 416 (one sixth the size of the original photo), reduce the size of the photo and save before uploading to the server. This will cut down on upload time if you have a lot of photos and will allow those with a slow connection speed to see the pictures faster. (Make sure the file name of the newly saved photo is the one you use in your html files.)

If you are planning on doing a lot of photo galleries, or photo galleries with lots of pictures in them, you might want to consider buying Dreamweaver by Macromedia. Dreamweaver has a script in it to automatically make web photo albums. This is what we use here at the Conference office when we need to do a photo album.

Download a .zip file that contains the .html files for this page and the two photo pages.
