God gives grace before we are aware of it. United Methodists call that prevenient grace.
God gives grace when we claim it for ourselves. We call that justifying grace.
And God continues to give us grace as we deepen and grow in our faith. We call that sancifying grace.
No matter what point we may be along our faith journey, God's grace is there for us. God even uses doubt to stregthen out faith.
We support one another in faith and life:
encouraging each other in spirit,
witnessing to what God has done in our lives,
helping us be accountable dor our behavior,
celebrating and grieving with one another.
We belong to God and each other.
We accept differences and seek to find common ground in Christ.
Faith has its internal and external dimensions.
It is important to act out our faith in the community.
That's why this church helped to start Columbus Clubhouse, a recycling program, and the food pantry over the years.
That's
why we support missions around the world.
We follow John Wesley's general rules
to do no harm,
do all the good we can,
and use the Means of Grace (prayer, fasting and abstinence, Christian conversation, searching the scriptures, worship and the Lord's Supper.)
We are a growing and active congregation with a passion for reaching out to those in need. May you find Christ's love and a sense of belonging in our worship and in each person here!
Worship is about building a bridge between our busy lives and the quiet strength of loving God. We worship an awesome God whom we know through Jesus. In Christ we know that our hopes, fears, and doubts are acceptable in God's eyes.
United Methodists are mission-oriented and work for social justice, locally and globally. We put our faith into action by supporting:
Our Confirmation Class of 2001 summarized our beliefs this way:
We believe in God the Creator
Who created you and me
In the image of God,
who gave us good things to eat,
who gave us the earth to enjoy and protect.
We believe in Jesus Christ
who redeemed us by dying on the cross
and rose from the dead on the third day,
who got angry when people took lightly
the things of God,
who cried because he didn't want to die,
who loved children,
resisted the devil's temptation,
and loved to teach.
We believe in the Holy Spirit, who guides, strengthens, and comforts us.
We are the church, the people of God,
who worship, sing, dance, rejoice,
love one another, and
reach out to those in need.
We invite you to share in our life together. We can be a resource to you in your own life of faith. Come see how you can be involved in our fellowship. We look forward to getting to know you.
