Just what your church has been looking for. . .This institute is an in-depth course for youth ministry that will:
The Youth Ministry Institute is a nine-month intensive course that covers the essentials any youth worker should know, from Wesleyan theology to planning and organizing events. Each session is designed to provide students with solid, usable information that will help them in any ministry setting. Our faculty includes Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary professors, pastors, and experienced national and local youth workers. YMI participants are expected to attend and participate in all events and stay overnight with the group during retreats. Participants will receive youth ministry textbooks and resource books and are expected to complete readings and a reflection paper prior to each session. Individuals will also meet with a mentor and with a small group. YMI is affiliated with Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary. With an additional final project, YMI students can receive credit at that institution. We encourage all churches hiring new youth leaders to send them to the Youth Ministry Institute. This is an important first step for success because it will provide them a network of colleagues who are all in the same place. It will give them lots of books and resources to start their youth ministry program off right and will help them connect and learn about all the different youth programs and events offered by the Wisconsin Conference Council on Youth Ministries (CCYM). If you are a clergy person wanting to know how to help the youth in your church grow, a volunteer in charge of a small youth group, or a seasoned veteran looking for a chance to renew your skills and knowledge, we encourage you to attend YMI. We are ready to turn the average stay of a youth leader from a heart-breaking 18 months to at least five years. YMI seeks to provide a quality educational experience for ALL adults in youth ministry. Applications for YMI 2006-2007 are due by September 1, 2006, with the first session starting September 22, 2006. Space is limited to 30 participants. Participants will receive verification and further information after August 23. The tuition cost for YMI is $600. Books are not included in this price and can either be purchased through the conference office or on your own. We encourage you to look to your church for scholarship or continuing education money. Scholarship assistance is available through the CCYM Angel Fund with applications due October 1. More information on the Angel Fund may be found at (www.wisconsinumc.org/ccym).
