The Power of Creation to Rejuvenate      Nancy and I have just returned from a week of vacation to South Dakota and Wyoming. We had never visited Mt. Rushmore and so this was the primary purpose of our trip, although we also saw a lot of other sites along the way.

     What struck me the most about our driving trip of 2,200 miles was how vast the countryside was. It seemed that all we saw for mile after mile were cattle grazing on hills. And even though they were speeding by at 75 miles an hour (the legal speed limit) they seemed to go on forever.

     We also saw a lot of wild animals ranging from prairie dog towns to Buffalo herds in Custer State Park.

     I was reminded of the words of the Psalmist, "For every wild animal of the forest is mine, the cattle on a thousand hills." (Ps. 50:10)

     That's the power of God's creation. By viewing glimpses of God's creation we are can be rejuvenated. We can be reminded of God's presence all around us. It also allows us to ponder our place in God's creation. We then ask with the Psalmist, "What are human beings that you are mindful of them, mortals that you care for them?" (Ps. 8:4)

     So as spring begins, finally, to show itself all around us I hope that you will ponder your place in God's creation and be rejuvenated in spirit by God's constant presence both in and around us!
