Why Attend Church? Why Gather Together? Why join a community of strangers?
By Grian Hollies-Maxwell
What is the big deal with going to church? Are all of these people just Bible-thumpers? A bunch of Jesus freaks? Are the buildings filled with people ready to tell you all that is wrong with you and your life?
So, the question is why do people attend church?
Well, the answer is because we desire community. Not a gathering of perfect people, but people just like you and me. People that are looking for answers to some of life’s questions: Why do bad things happen to good people? What does it mean to be a good person? Why is there so much suffering in the world? We do not claim to have all the answers, but together we can look for answers together.
There is power in people coming together, intent on connecting with each other in meaningful ways and intent on learning about God. People gathering to learn about the Bible and showing others the Gospel and grace.
We show up to be in God’s presence together and to pray for those far and near. We attend church because we care about the lost people that may or may not be at church that day. We give our time, our prayers and our talents to ask God to bring you closer to the Creator.
