Wisconsin Conference South East district map highlightAs your District Superintendent, it gives me great pleasure to welcome you to the South East District of the Wisconsin Conference. I am eager and excited to have this opportunity to be in ministry with you. Of all the new districts, ours has the largest number of churches and is the most ethnically diverse. Within the South East District, we are proud to support several Health and Welfare agencies, including Northcott Neighborhood House, United Methodist Children Services, VMP (Village at Manor Park) and Cedar Crest.

There are many possibilities for us to serve together as we Imagine Wisconsin Anew. While we have a new name, many of the ministries that we started in the Metros Region will continue on in our new South East District. With the help of the Wisconsin Conference and Angel Tree Fellowship, we sponsor Rising Sun Camp at Camp Lake Lucerne for children who have a parent who is incarcerated. Our District Strategy Team is made up of several groups, each with a focus on developing new critical ministries, new church starts and new faith communities in urban, suburban, and town and country settings.

Every year, we have an Annual District Conference. The District Conference is a learning experience with time for fellowship and a business meeting. We have a District Asking, which is an apportionment of sixty cents per full member of each one of our churches in the district. These funds allow the district to respond to emerging needs and to sponsor the scholarships for a lay person to take specialized training, such as Faith Alive, or for laity and pastors to attend workshops benefitting their church. We have also assisted with Annual Conference expenses for new and incoming pastors and lay preachers, hosted two tables at Northcott Neighborhood House’s Annual Meeting and the Annual Interfaith Luncheon in Milwaukee for our new clergy appointed to our district. We also have an Annual Appreciation Luncheon for clergy and their families. We are working with the General Board of Global Ministries to launch six new community developers in our district. In the past, we sponsored a statewide youth event to recruit and inform our Wisconsin Conference of various ways that they could enter into ministry, and cosponsored the North Central Jurisdictional Urban Strategy Conference.

I am excited to be sharing in ministry with you!

May peace, love and justice be with you always,

Rev. Deborah Thompson
