Christian Origins in Turkey (April 19-28, 2006)
updated 17 May 2005

Turkey is the crossroads of over 25 civilizations and is incredibly rich in history. Most of the New Testament writings of Paul have their setting in Turkey. The seven Asian churches in the book of Revelation are located in Turkey. In addition to the study of Biblical geography, we also learn about the modern religious dynamics in Turkey. Bishop Lee invites you to join her in study and travel in order to deepen our understandings of the Bible, our world and one another. More information on this trip can be found at:
www.wisconsinumc.org/2006StudyTrip/2006ChristianOrigins.pdf.

Please direct questions or requests for further information to Forrest Wells at coulee@wisconsinumc.org or call 1.888.240.7328.

Churches sought to help family farm projects
Churches are needed this winter to host benefit sales for farmers in times of crisis. The benefit sales consist of a winter farmer's market held in city or suburban church fellowship or parish halls. Churches' Center for Land and People is recruiting Illinois, Iowa and Wisconsin farmers to take part in these sales and churches, temples and synagogues to host them. A portion of each sale will be donated to a licensed, non-profit Harvest of Hope fund. The fund helps farm families pay emergency medical or utility bills, or cover losses due to harsh weather conditions.

WELCOMING 101:
FROM YOUR HOME
ONLINE WELCOMING TRAINING

We've put a fresh spin on welcoming training. Thousands of church leaders have already received tools and skills to help them live the welcoming promise - "Open hearts, Open minds, Open doors." But millions of other United Methodists throughout the United States have yet to experience the lifestyle-changing message of this training - often because of time, budget and travel constraints.

"Igniting Ministry 101" is a new online learning opportunity that is designed to help local churches sharpen their welcoming skills. This basic course will deliver the key elements of Igniting Ministry training to your computer desk - whenever you have time to log on. By the end of this four-session online course, you will:

  • understand the motivation and research behind the unprecedented national advertising of the denomination.
  • explore the importance of developing a welcoming lifestyle - in your life and in your church.
  • create an action plan to help build welcoming into your congregation's culture as you invite your community into your church.

This highly interactive course includes quizzes, discussion areas, audio clips, videos, and links to more information. Cost of this online course is only $12 per person. See the enrollment information at: www.training.umcom.org. Questions? Call Igniting Ministry Training at 877-281-6535, Ext. 3.

Church Profiles online!
The revised profiles are back online
HERE. They are accurate through 2001. There are a number of churches that have not yet turned in their stat tables and year-end reports for 2002; we will update these profiles through 2002 as soon as all the information has been received by the finance office. The reports were due at the end of 2002. Churches that have not turned in their reports will show zero amounts in all categories for 2003 and all subsequent planning projections for that church will be useless. Please turn in your reports!

Search for the advance numbers of our Advance Special Giving funds. You can search on a word (for example, "africa") or on part of a word (for example, "afr").
