Stories

This ministry not only offers people the stability of improved housing at lower cost to them, it offers anyone—within our churches or new to us—the chance to nail, tutor, study scripture, or process in a group with someone we may never have met, and we will find Christ like never before, right beside us in the city.

Just as the risen Jesus told the disciples to stay in the city and wait for a vision, we too, are asking what will we find if we stayed here? What if we stayed with new or refurbished homes? What if we stayed with Sidewalk Sunday School? What if we stayed with folks who walked the neighborhoods and made relationships that listen and minister? What if we stayed with a parish nurse or 12-step group? What if we stayed with a Disciple Bible study or alternatives to incarceration or Restorative Justice? What if we stayed in the city until the Spirit blows afresh among us?

We went throughout the neighborhood by Solomon Community Temple, and I heard my walking partner, Clyde, describe the United Methodist Church saying, "We're no fly by night outfit, not just a church on a corner, but we're in over 100 countries across the world, and across this city—we're here for you."
