Antigo United
Methodist Church
Committee name:
Staff Parish Relations
Membership: 6-8
including the Pastor (Chairperson is member of Ad Council)
Reports to:
Administrative Council
Anticipated meeting
schedule: alternating months
Purpose: To
work with cabinet on pastoral appointments, and to hire, provide
evaluation, set salaries, and offer guidance to all paid staff and to
act as a liaison between the congregation and staff.
Responsibilities:
(confidentiality is required with many of these responsibilities)
Listen to the needs
and be supportive of the pastor, staff, and congregation
Revise job
descriptions of all paid staff as necessary
Help establish
priorities in the pastor's ministries and lay employees
Communicate these
priorities to the District Superintendent
Prepare contracts
for each employee
For vacancies:
advertise for candidates, conduct interviews, run background checks and
hire personnel
Provide orientation
for new staff
Set up a liaison
person from this committee for each employee
Act on issues
related to personnel when appropriate
Provide yearly
evaluations of staff performance
Document all
reprimands
Inform staff of
continuing education opportunities
Arrange “going away”
and “welcoming” celebrations for staff
Facilitate the
transition when a new pastor or employee is assigned
Prepare yearly
budget for staff in September
Prepare reports for
Charge Conference in October and send to Dist. Supt
Submit newsletter
articles as appropriate
Suggest revisions of
this committee description to the Administrative Council
Complete other
duties as assigned by the Administrative Council
