Important Reminders—May 26, 2005

Registration forms for Annual Conference are due by Wednesday, June 1. Those postmarked after June 1 need to include a $25 late fee. The registrar estimates that almost 250 persons have not yet mailed their registrations.

As of May 26, we have very few children registered for child care during conference. So few, in fact, that we will need to realign our care staff. This raises concerns for the Program and Arrangements Committee as we have hired staff for many more than are registered (because we go according to numbers in the years past.) If you are planning on child care at Annual Conference, please register your child/children by June 1. [ Child Care Registration Form ]

Needed at Annual Conference: Youth Pages and a male chaperone. See further information on the CCYM home page or contact Amy Valdez Barker at 1-888-240-7328, amybarker@wisconsinumc.org.

Dear Members of the Wisconsin Annual Conference,

It is hard to believe that in just under three months we will gather together as members of the United Methodist Church in Wisconsin to go about the work of the Church and to celebrate our ministries together. I would like to be the first to welcome all those who are new members of the Wisconsin Annual Conference and to say a hearty "hello" to those who are returning for another wonderful year of worship, fellowship, business, and prayer. (If you are no longer the lay member from your church or if you will not be attending this year, please forward this material to the appropriate person in your church.)

We will be meeting again this year at the Marriott Madison West Conference Center, in Madison. We will begin our meeting time together on Sunday, June 12, and end on Wednesday, June 15. The Conference will begin with the Clergy and Laity Sessions, which will both meet at the Madison Marriott beginning at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday.

The Program and Arrangements Committee has been working diligently to provide an agenda that is filled with many wonderful experiences during this Annual Conference Session. Two worship services will be held in order to ordain and commission the newest members of our Annual Conference. The Ordination Service will take place on Sunday evening at 7:00 p.m. while the Commissioning Service will occur on Monday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. Both of these services will be held at the Madison Marriott and will provide us the opportunity to welcome those persons who are being Ordained and Commissioned into our midst during their. own special and moving services.

During the Annual Conference we will have the opportunity to hear Bishop Ricardo Pereira preach. Bishop Pereira will be visiting with us from Cuba. We will also be moving through our Annual Conference with our minds on the theme "One Bread, One Body" and learning how we can continue to live together as the body of Christ in this world. Doug Anderson of The Bishop Reuben Job Enter for Leadership Development will be one of the guest speakers who will help to focus us on this theme as we then work together within our regional areas to get to know one another better and to vision the future of United Methodism in Wisconsin.

One of the most exciting moments of this Annual Conference will be the welcoming of Bishop Linda Lee. Many have not yet had the opportunity to meet Bishop Lee and we are looking forward to celebrating the ways that she is already in ministry in this Annual Conference and how we will be working into the future together.

Your Program and Arrangements Committee is also thrilled to be welcoming into our midst Cynthia Wilson-Hollins as the Conference Musician. Cynthia is a very talented musician who is known throughout the United Methodist Church for her expert leading of various events and worship experiences. She has been the conference musician at General Conference and brings to us a musical expertise that will enliven and deepen our Annual Conference experience.

There are two steps in the registration process:

  • Conference Registration - Registration form for the Conference (pdf document; self calculating with auto-complete for duplicate copy). It is vital that you register prior to arriving in Madison.
  • Housing Arrangements - You must make housing arrangements directly with a motel/hotel of your choice. Listing of nearby housing accommodations (pdf document) where blocks of rooms have been set aside for Annual Conference members. Space is limited, so please register as soon as possible.

As you can see there is much to look forward to during this Annual Conference session and your Program and Arrangements Committee is looking forward to seeing all of you in June. We hope and pray that it will be a time of renewal and togetherness as we look again at how we are called to join together in God's ministry in this world. May we enter the next few months in prayer for our Annual Conference that we may come together in June ready to join together as the Body of Christ.

Amy Jameson Yackovich
Chairperson of the Program and Arrangements Committee
